1,012 new cases, S’gor most affected, 4 deaths

COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 1,012 new cases today, the majority in the state of Selangor, and four deaths.

Almost half (49 percent) of Covid-19 patients in intensive care require respiratory support.

The number of patients requiring ventilation has reached the highest levels in the last two months.

Main indicators:

  • Active cases: 10,862 ↓ (742 more than the previous day)
  • ICU patients: 126 ↓ (3 more than the previous day)
  • Intubated patients: 62 ↑ (7 more than the previous day)

In the Klang Valley regions of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, 57.7 percent of new cases are of known origin: from groups, close contacts with Covid-19 positive individuals, and returned from abroad.

However, 218 cases, or 42.3 percent of new cases in this region, were classified under “other assessments,” a general term for assessments in people with symptoms, preoperative assessments, workplace assessments, and evaluations prior to departure, among others.

This region accounted for half of the new cases, followed by Sabah (26.8 percent) and Johor (10.7 percent).

Four deaths were reported in Sabah. The cumulative number of deaths from Covid-19 for Sabah has reached 224 or 57.7 percent of the national total (388).

The details of the victims are as follows:

Patient 25,285 – Malaysian woman, 64 years old, passed away at Tawau Hospital.

Patient 68,327 – foreign woman, 90 years old, died upon arrival at Tuaran Hospital.

Patient 69,413 – Malay woman, 92, died on arrival at Lahad Datu Hospital.

Patient 70,589 – Malaysian woman, 33, passed away at Tawau Hospital.

Of the 1,012 new boxes today, seven were imported. A breakdown of the new cases is as follows:
