EMCO in Seremban Prison, staff accommodation extended 2 weeks

Chief Minister Ismail Sabri says 487 people were arrested for MCO-related crimes.

PETALING JAYA: The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Seremban Prison and its staff quarters was extended for another two weeks until December 21, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

In a statement, it said the Health Ministry had tested 1,582 people, including prisoners and staff members, with 964 testing positive. The results of some 185 samples taken for a second screening are still pending.

Meanwhile, he said that the closure of Kg Sabah Baru in Lahad Datu, Sabah will end today as planned.

The Health Ministry examined 2,054 people and detected 382 cases there. All sample results have been obtained.

Ismail also said 487 people were arrested yesterday by police for MCO-related crimes, with 470 fined and 17 in pre-trial detention.

Most of them were sanctioned for not registering the personal data of customers when entering the stores (59), not wearing a mask (77) and not practicing physical distancing (205).

There were also 94 who were caught in entertainment centers, he said.

Authorities also detained 25 undocumented immigrants and a trafficker yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.
