ALOR SETAR (Bernama): A deputy director of operations of a government department was detained to assist in the investigation of the alleged misappropriation of the “duit raya” allocation worth 22,500 RM.
According to sources from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the 53-year-old was arrested at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday (December 6) when he showed up at the MACC office here.
“The suspect is believed to have abused his power by misappropriating Aidilfitri ‘duit raya’ allowance amounting to 22,500 ringgit received from the state government, to be distributed between the administration and professional officials, each receiving 500 ringgit .
“However, the assistance was not distributed to eligible recipients,” the sources said, adding that the suspect will be released on MACC bail.
Meanwhile, the director of Kedah MACC, Datuk Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap, when contacted, confirmed the matter and said that the case was being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act of 2009. – Bernama
