ISKANDAR PUTERI: Party Chairman Muhyiddin Yassin told Johor PPBM assemblymen today to calm down, shortly before the 2021 state budget was voted on for its second reading.

A party informant who asked to remain anonymous told the FMT that Muhyiddin had explained the political situation in Perak, where PPBM vice president Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost a vote of confidence and resigned yesterday as a mentor kiss.

Muhyiddin held a half-hour meeting with the party’s assemblymen during a lull in the assembly’s debate. He urged them to follow orders.

“Many issues were discussed, including party issues and party issues in Johor,” the source said. “He also explained the actual situation that happened in Perak, asking us to remain calm.”

Johor’s 2021 state budget was approved for committee stage debate in a voice vote.

All eyes were on today’s session as there was speculation that Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad could be forced to resign if the budget was not approved.

It had also been speculated that members of the PPBM could retaliate against Hasni, who is from Umno, due to the vote in Perak, where Faizal was defeated by 48 votes to 10 and one abstention. However, Faizal had yesterday urged PPBM members not to retaliate.

The Johor assembly has 56 seats with Umno and DAP each with 14, followed by PPBM (12), MIC (two), PAS (one), Amanah (nine) and PKR (four). The Perikatan Nasional state government has 29 seats from Umno, PPBM, PAS and MIC, while the opposition Pakatan Harapan has 27 seats from DAP, Amanah and PKR.
