(Video) Chilwell foul identical to LFC challenge ignored by VAR

A clip has emerged, from Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leeds United, of a similar challenge from fullback Ben Chilwell over Leeds’ Ian Poveda-Ocampo, which went unpunished by VAR.

The Blues’ boxing match came late in the second half, with the Englishman striking the foot of the Leeds winger after completely missing the ball.

The incident will have raised a lot of eyebrows among Liverpool fans, who watched a virtually identical moment in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Brighton last week.

The VAR then opted to intervene at the Amex, penalizing Andy Robertson for catching Danny Welbeck’s boot, after a failed attempt to clear the ball.

We at EOTK cannot say that we are surprised to see that VAR demonstrates, once again, the utter inconsistency of decision-making that takes place in Stockley Park.

Of course, that doesn’t make this misstep any less frustrating, given the VAR’s recent propensity for making unreliable calls, at least as far as Liverpool is concerned.

With the level of refereeing increasingly in question, we can only hope that the latest VAR controversy will invite a serious rethink about its value to the sport.
