Inter-district and interstate travel ban lifted among new POEs

Interdistrict and interstate travel is no longer prohibited under new government-issued guidelines.

Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the exception is for areas under an enhanced movement control order.

To travel to Sabah, people must obtain a Covid-19 test three days prior to entry. Only those who have no symptoms and have negative results will be allowed to enter.

However, the government is still investigating what tourist activities will be allowed or prohibited.

Ismail said there will be no more police checks starting Monday, but will intensify the application of standard operating procedures for social distancing.

Meanwhile, the limit of two people per car will no longer apply, and the number of passengers will depend on the capacity of the vehicle.

A 7-seater minivan, for example, can seat up to seven people.

Ismail, however, said that vehicles that are over their capacity can still be stopped for violating road ordinances.

More updates to the SOP are expected.

The move comes after the government decided to end the conditional MCO for most areas.

Ismail said that if the conditional OLS is maintained, the country’s GDP will lose RM300 million per day.
