KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The government is set to increase the monthly assistance of the Department of Social Welfare from between RM200 and RM300 to RM1,000.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he would ensure that eligible recipients of assistance have the same opportunities to live their lives as any other member of society.

“Taking into account the current financial situation and cost of living, I have proposed that the department’s monthly assistance to eligible beneficiaries be increased to RM 1,000 from the current amount of RM 200 to RM 300.

“And of course, people with disabilities are included in this group who will benefit from the increase. I will ensure that the proposal is implemented immediately,” he said in a post on his official Facebook page in conjunction with International Women’s Day. People. with disabilities on Thursday (December 3).

Muhyiddin had proposed in August this year the increase of the monthly allowance to help the disabled community, which is part of the B40 group, as part of the aspirations of the Perikatan Nasional government under his leadership.

Muhyiddin said that the disabled are part of the community that is always close by and receives care from him and the government.

“I have personally gone to the field to meet with this group, such as during my visits to the Desa Rejang PPR flats in Setapak here, and the Taman Sri Keramat PPR in Putatan, Sabah,” he said.

He said that the government, through the Ministry of Finance, had announced several initiatives for the group during the recent presentation of the Budget 2021, including increasing the monthly allowance for unemployed persons with disabilities from 250 to 300 RM, for the disabled and employed. from 400 RM. to RM450, and for the care of people with disabilities, from RM350 to RM500.

According to the department’s registry, he said the number of people with disabilities registered in Malaysia now stands at 581,265 and he hopes the campaign to get more people with disabilities to register can be intensified to ensure that no one is left behind.

“This is important to ensure that they are not left behind in obtaining help from the government, especially when facing difficult times during the spread of Covid-19.
