GEORGE TOWN: A 49-year-old woman was killed in a freak accident after being hit by a car, crushed against a wall that then collapsed, causing both the vehicle and the victim to fall 20 feet into a condo here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said in the incident that occurred around noon on Thursday (December 3), the victim was walking in the driveway of the condo that is located on level one that is near the main entrance.

Initial investigations found that the victim was heading to her car when she was suddenly struck by another vehicle entering the condo.

“A 71-year-old woman driving the car was startled when she saw the victim suddenly crossing in front of her. She accidentally pressed the accelerator, colliding with her.

“The vehicle then crashed into the wall of the driveway before landing about 20 feet on another car below,” it said in a statement Thursday.

ACP Soffian said that as a result of the collision, the victim was crushed and dragged by the car that fell, and died on the spot.

The 71-year-old woman is known to have been injured and taken to Penang hospital for treatment.

Rescue personnel spent more than an hour to remove the body from the wrecked vehicle.

The case has been classified under Section 41 (1) of the Highway Transportation Act of 1987.
