IPOH: A 47-year-old man received a compound for defying the improved motion control (MCO) order while causing a scene at a grocery store in Lahat here.

Police arrested the man on Tuesday (December 1) at around 8.45pm following a report filed by a grocery store worker at around 2.50pm.

A 35-second video recording of the incident went viral on social media, showing the man without a mask speaking explicit words to a grocery store worker.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the man had committed the crime on Monday (November 30) around 8.40pm.

“The man was reprimanded for not observing the POE.

“Then he insulted and spat at one of the workers there.

“A fight almost broke out, but it was stopped by several workers there,” he said on Wednesday (December 2).

ACP Asmadi said the man had been detained for 24 hours to facilitate investigations under section 160 of the Penal Code and section 14 of the Misdemeanor Act.

“He confessed to being drunk during the incident.

“We have issued him a compound and we consider the case closed,” he said, adding that the man has three prior offenses.

“I urge people not to share the video, as it could harm and threaten the harmony between races,” he added.
