KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police arrested 311 people yesterday for crimes related to movement control.

Of the total, Ismail said 306 people received compound fines, while another five were detained.

Most of the crimes, he said, were for not wearing masks.

Other offenses include failing to practice physical distancing, failing to provide contact tracing record materials, participating in entertainment center activities, and traveling between states or between districts without a permit.

A total of 2,841 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in 16,053 supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.

Ismail also said police captured 14 illegal immigrants and seized three boats and a vehicle yesterday under Ops Benteng.

He added that 79,128 people have come through KLIA from July 24 to November 30 from various countries.

A total of 502 people tested positive for Covid-19 and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 67,356 were able to return home.

Some 11,270 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
