PADANG BESAR (Bernama): The mission of the 3rd Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) is still unfinished and incomplete despite the fact that its mission to protect the border between Malaysia and Thailand has officially ended, says its commander-in-chief , the Supt Rosman Kasman (Photo).

It said they are reluctant to return after the incident in which two of their members were attacked by smugglers last week, leaving one dead and one seriously injured, while some of the remaining criminals are still at large.

“The mission is complete but we leave with heavy hearts because there is something incomplete because the rest of the smugglers involved in the incident of the shooting of our friends are still free.

“Although the 310 members of the GOF 3rd Battalion managed to complete their duties well, we are saddened by the loss of Sergeant Baharuddin, who is an experienced member,” he told Bernama here.

Today is the last day of the month-long assignment of the GOF 3rd Battalion which is based in Bidor, Perak. It will be replaced by the GOF 2nd Battalion, which is based in Kulim, Kedah.

On November 24, a GOF officer, Sjn Baharuddin Ramli, 54, was killed while his friend Sjn Norihan a / l Tari, 39, was seriously injured in a shootout with a group of smugglers some 600 meters from the post. control station TS9 in Padang Besar.

The following day, another service member at the M16 post in Bukit Kayu Hitam was injured after being shot with a compressed air rifle, believed to have been by a smuggler.

Supt Rosman said his team has done its job with honesty and integrity even though there is always the element of danger in performing their duties at the border.

“But the Senoi Praaq members have faithfully carried out their duties and, during my assignment, I did not receive any reports on corruption because they have great discipline and integrity,” he said.

He said that the honesty embedded in each member of Senoi Praaq is a “legacy” inherited from previous generations at the beginning of its establishment until today.

“The recent incident of the shooting shows that the members of Battalion 3 have great integrity and are not intimidated by the enemies of the country,” he said.

He said that since Op Bersepadu was launched, major ketum license smugglers have stopped their activities with only a few attempts by individual smugglers.

Meanwhile, he said his battalion planned to build a memorial at the site to commemorate the deceased GOF member’s service to inspire other members to safeguard the country’s borders.

“We will also build a soccer pavilion at GOF Bidor camp, Perak, to fulfill the dream of the late Senoi Praaq member who loved soccer and the pavilion will be known as BahaBola in his honor,” he said. – Bernama
