KUALA LUMPUR: A Nigerian suspected of dumping his grandson yesterday from a fourth floor apartment is believed to have mental health problems, police said.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the suspect was found to be using drugs related to mental health, according to information provided by family members.

“We are also investigating whether he has been receiving mental health treatment,” he said.

The man’s statement has yet to be taken, as he has been kept in Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The suspect’s wife and stepdaughter, whom the suspect attempted to rape, were also being treated for trauma and injuries as a result of an assault.

Saiful Azly said the suspect has been in pretrial detention for seven days until Dec. 6 for murder and attempted murder investigations.
