JOHOR BARU: The police have opened an investigation into a man for allegedly making a defamatory statement against Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Comm Ayob said the suspect left the country since November 2, 2017, and is believed to currently reside in Germany.
The suspect had allegedly uploaded a video via Facebook on Sunday (Nov 29) alleging that Comm Ayob is pursuing K. Haridas, a suspect who has previously been arrested for allegedly making a defamatory statement about Police Inspector General Tan Sri. Abdul Hamid Bador and Comm Ayob.
“This has become a trend for people leaving the country and making defamatory statements and accusations,” Comm Ayob said.
“The suspect’s background checks revealed that he had seven prior offenses on his criminal record involving cases under Section 397 / 397A of the Penal Code for armed robbery, Section 160 of the Penal Code for assault and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, “he said.
He said this during a press conference at the Johor Police Headquarters here on Monday (Nov 30).
Comm Ayob also denied the statement made by the suspect claiming that 255 inmates died in prison between 2000 and 2014 due to police brutality.
“In Johor, we have recorded 23 deaths of inmates who have died from illness from 2000 to 2014, the inmates are all drug addicts who have died from their illness and are classified in Sudden Death Reports (SDR) and not by police brutality .
“As for Haridas, he was arrested for a case sought under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. He was later indicted in court on November 24 and was offered RM10,000 bail which he was unable to pay.
“Haridas has made a report alleging that he was beaten during pre-trial detention at the Ulu Choh Pretrial Detention Center and not inside the police jail,” he said, adding that Ganesparan must verify his facts before making any libelous statements.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 500/504 of the Penal Code for defamation and intentional insult and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Law for sharing offensive and threatening content.
In the six-minute, 55-second video, the suspect labeled Comm Ayob a racist using a cartoon and questioned his actions to arrest men with alleged ties to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2019 during his time as the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Division of the Bukit Aman Special Branch (E8).
