KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Sarawak customs official received a death threat when a letter containing two bullets was found in the parking lot of his home on Thursday.
Customs Director General Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said it is believed to be related to the officer’s involvement in conducting operations at the ports of Rajang and Bintulu from October 21 to November 13.
He said the envelope had the word “death” on it and inside was a note that said: “I have two bullets, one short and one long, which one do you want.”
He said CCTV footage showed a man getting out of a car in front of the officer’s home before throwing something into the parking lot around 7.15pm on Wednesday.
The officer filed a police report on the incident.
Latiff said a similar note was previously found at a neighbor’s home and did not rule out the possibility that it was also intended for the officer.
“The Customs Department takes any form of intimidation or threat against its officers seriously,” he said.
Operations at the two ports resulted in the seizure of goods worth about RM2.64 million and the recovery of taxes and duties estimated at RM655,300.
