KUALA LUMPUR: Residents of an apartment in Danau Kota, Setapak, woke up to a gruesome scene.

Dozens of residents and security guards who sat down for breakfast or simply woke up in the low-rise, mid-cost apartment heard a loud noise around 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

As they ran out of their homes, they found the body of a four-year-old boy lying lifeless on the floor with blood splatters on the stairs and in the hallway.

Only much later did they learn that there had been a fight inside one of the apartment units.

A Nigerian allegedly had beaten members of his family after they prevented him from attempting to rape one of his stepsons.

In a fit of rage, the man is said to have thrown the boy, his grandson, out of the building.

Confirming the incident, Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the boy’s body is believed to have been thrown from the third floor of the apartment block.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect, a 42-year-old Nigerian, had attempted to rape one of his stepsons who was sleeping in the living room.

“His wife and other children saw the attempt and tried to stop him,” he said.

A fight broke out after the attempted rape and the man allegedly turned violent, attacking and beating everyone in the unit.

“The suspect hit and injured everyone inside, including his grandson.

“As his wife and stepchildren fled for help, the suspect picked up the grandson and kicked him out of the unit.

“Then he jumped from the same floor but survived the fall. He was detained by security guards and members of the public before being handed over to the police, ”Supt Rajab Ahad said in a statement.

Police were notified of the incident around 8 a.m.

Investigations showed that the man lived with his 49-year-old Malaysian wife and son, four stepchildren and grandson.

A neighbor, who declined to be identified, said she had been awakened by a woman’s frantic cries for help.

“I heard a loud noise and screaming and then the wife screamed for help.

“My husband went out to see what the problem was and to help, but when we saw the man outside the door looking at us, we went back inside.

“I’ve seen the boy before. This is a huge impact, ”he said.

The neighbor said she had not heard the family fight before, adding that they were cordial when interacting with her.

Another neighbor, who also asked not to be identified, showed reporters the blood spatter on the staircase outside the apartment unit, said to be due to injuries sustained by family members while fleeing.

Traces of blood stains were seen from the third floor to the bottom floor of the staircase.

Outside, the atmosphere was bleak as police and forensic agents processed the crime scene.

Other residents continued to express their shock and grief, with many saying they knew the family and mourned the loss of such a young child.

Superintendent Rajab Ahad said the man had been arrested and would be in pretrial detention today, while the survivors were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

He also urged all witnesses to come forward.

The case has been classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
