Police detained the drug addict after the girl’s family filed a report on the alleged incident in Inanam on Wednesday.

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a drug addict who allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl at knife point near here.

The 25-year-old man had allegedly given the girl RM5 after raping her so that she would not tell her family about the incident, which occurred in Inanam on Wednesday.

The city’s chief of police, Habibi Majinji, said the girl had left her home at 8:30 am to go to her aunt’s house, a stone’s throw away.

She was walking home when the man stopped her.

He said the man offered the girl some sweets and told her to follow him, adding that the man led her to a cabin in a wooded area, about 300 meters from the girl’s house.

“When the girl wanted to go home, the man pulled out a knife,” he said when contacted.

“After the rape, the man let her go and gave her RM5 so she wouldn’t tell her family,” Habibi said.

The family learned of the incident when the girl came home crying. A medical examination later confirmed that the girl had been raped.

Following a police report, the man was arrested on the Tuaran bypass in Inanam the following day.

“The man also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the man used the cabin to use drugs.
