PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): All the officers and staff of the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture (Motac) headquarters here have been instructed to undergo self-quarantine and work from home since Thursday (November 26) after the detection of a case of Covid-19.

An official from Tourism Malaysia, a Motac agency attached to Motac headquarters, was found to be positive for Covid-19, Motac said in a statement on Thursday (Nov 26).

“The Motac building in Putrajaya was disinfected by officials from the Ministry of Health last night as a measure to stop any spread of the disease,” he said.

Motac also said contact tracing found that Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri had no direct contact with the infected officer and that this was verified by the Health Ministry.

He said Nancy had a Covid-19 swab test at 5.15pm yesterday and the result was negative.

As a precautionary measure, Nancy is scheduled to have another swab test this morning, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, an aide to Nancy confirmed that the minister was in the ministry’s office in the Sultan Abdul Samad building in Kuala Lumpur.

“During the session of Parliament, YB Minister operates from the office in Kuala Lumpur. He had no contact with the infected officer and this has been verified (through contact tracing) by the Ministry of Health,” he said.

In today’s Dewan Rakyat session, Balik Pulau deputy Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik from Pakatan Harapan (PH) asked President Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun about the minister’s permission to be in the Dewan Rakyat after the detection of the Covid- 19 at the Motac headquarters.

Nancy is scheduled to wrap up the House debate on the 2021 Supplies Bill or the 2021 Budget for her ministry today. – Bernama
