Ismail Sabri: 243 Arrested for MCO Violations on Thursday (Nov 25)

PUTRAJAYA: Authorities arrested 243 people for various violations of the movement control order (MCO), including failure to wear masks.

Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 26 were forwarded and another 217 issued composite.

“Violations include not wearing face masks (79 people), failing to respect physical distancing rules (48), failing to provide registration facilities for clients (40), and crossing state and district borders without permission (20 ), ”Ismail Sabri said in a statement on Thursday (November 26).

The arrests were made during police checks on Wednesday (Nov 25), who are leading the government’s task force on compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

A total of 60,038 controls were carried out by 13,390 officers of the working group.

The locations monitored include supermarkets, restaurants, street stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as air, land and water terminals.

Ismail Sabri also said that under Ops Benteng, 32 undocumented immigrants and two ship captains were arrested and 10 vehicles were seized.

The operation is aimed at preventing immigrants from entering the country illegally and preventing cross-border crime and the spread of Covid-19.

On mandatory quarantine orders for travelers, Ismail Sabri said that between July 24 and November 25, a total of 75,212 people entered the country through international entry points.

All were placed in 75 hotels and 18 other locations across the country to undergo their mandatory quarantine process.

So far, 10,717 people are in quarantine, while another 64,096 have already been discharged.
