Serge Aurier feels “something special” is happening at Tottenham, but the Frenchman warned it is too early to start talking about title challenges. José Mourinho’s team held a tactics masterclass on Sunday to beat Manchester City 2-0 and shoot to the top of the Premier League on goal difference ahead of champions Liverpool, following a five-win streak in their last six matches.
The Spurs now appear to have ignored their early season setbacks when they lost points to teams like Newcastle and West Ham.
And Aurier, 27, now in his fourth season at Tottenham, said: “The goal is to try and stay there as long as possible.
“We are very happy with what is happening and with our position because we deserve to be at the top of the table.
“And I can’t forget that we lost some stupid points at home to West Ham or Newcastle.
“It’s too early to think about the title. We can’t rush anything. A couple of weeks ago Southampton were at the top, then Leicester was. Now it’s us.”
“We want to be in the conversation, and we are. We have great games and we want more results like against City.”
Spurs face Ludogorets in the Europa League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow (Thursday) night, knowing that a win would put them firmly in command of Group J.
Aurier said: “I can feel that something special is happening here. I am not a dreamer; I take things as they happen.
“We are all on the same page. We work together, we win together, one day we will lose together, but we will have to stay together.”
“I want to win the next game and go to all the games with the players believing and organized so that we can beat that opponent.
“We are a process. This team is an ongoing process. Good signs of evolution at all levels. We are very happy with that, of course, but I don’t care too much about the table.”
He added: “I’m happy with the evolution. I knew it, I think I knew where the team could improve. We work hard, the players are very open to what we are doing.”
“I couldn’t be more satisfied, but this position can be false. Tomorrow we can be second and you lose two games and we could be in the middle of the table. Incredible, incredible Premier League.”
