PETALING JAYA: The world’s largest rubber glove maker says that not all of the Teratai group’s positive Covid-19 cases, which is affecting Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, were from its facilities.
At a press conference broadcast live today, Top Glove CEO Lim Cheong Guan said that around 3,000 cases of the 4,036 reported in the group were from its factories and shelters, and the rest from other factories.
However, he did not provide further details about his claim, saying that only the Health Ministry could provide the exact figures.
Lim said the large number of cases in recent days was primarily due to increased testing being carried out at its facility, which is now under the enhanced motion control (EMCO) order.
A Top Glove worker shelter in Klang has been placed under the EMCO since November 17, after 215 cases of Covid-19 were detected there.
Lim said the company also aimed to screen all of its factory workers and employees, including those who were not in lockdown areas.
He is hopeful that things will return to normal in a few weeks, as cases are expected to show a downward trend after all evaluations are completed.
Lim added that 500 of his workers have been discharged so far, after being hospitalized for six days, and have been placed in designated hostels or hotels to complete the remainder of their 14-day quarantine period.
He added that Top Glove is looking to restart operations in stages after all employees are confirmed to be free of Covid-19 and are in a position to resume work.
