KUALA LUMPUR, November 25 – Top Glove Corporation Berhad assured its consumers today that the gloves manufactured by the company are not contaminated by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, as it is located at the epicenter of a major Covid-19 group in The last weeks.

Its CEO, Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai, also stressed that all the factory’s production lines were automated within a controlled environment and that employees who come into contact with the manufactured product are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE). .

“The answer is that there is no contamination because the environment of our factory is quite warm, so the gloves are placed in hot ovens at more than 110 degrees Celsius above, so Covid-19 [pathogens] they are unable to survive there.

“Employees at our factory wear PPE, so there is no direct contact with the gloves,” he said during a virtual press conference organized at Zoom.

On closing its factories, Managing Director Datuk Lee Kim Meow said that the company has already stopped operations at 20 factories within the Meru, Klang area, while eight more are operating at reduced capacity since November 17.

This, he said, would undoubtedly affect shipments in at least two to three weeks, depending on the length of the Enhanced Motion Control (EMCO) order imposed on factories and worker dormitories after more than 3,000 of his workers tested positive for Covid-19. .

However, Lim expressed optimism despite the temporary factory closures, noting that the company has overseas factories in Thailand, Vietnam and China that may continue to make its disposable rubber gloves as the situation gradually returns to normal. .

Top Glove, the world’s largest manufacturer of rubber gloves, currently employs more than 21,000 workers nationwide.

In Klang alone, it has 28 factories, which have become the epicenter of the Teratai group with 4,036 Covid-19 cases reported as of November 24. More than 80 percent of those infected are foreign workers.

On Monday, the National Security Council (NSC) ruled that Top Glove must shut down its 28 factories in stages after the highly infectious virus was found to have passed through workers’ quarters and entered the wider community.

The NSC also announced today that a task force comprised of local authorities and public health officials has been formed to oversee screening and quarantine procedures for employees at the Top Glove Corporation Bhd factory.
