JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly making a slanderous statement about Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador and Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

Comm Ayob said that K. Haridas was arrested at his home in Taman Pasir Mas, Rantau in Negri Sembilan around 9 pm on Monday (November 23).

“The suspect has been indicted in the Magistrates Court here and was granted bail of RM10,000 which he did not pay.

“Background checks also revealed that he had six criminal records,” he said, adding that the suspect is currently being held in the Kangkar Pulai police station dungeon with his case re-mentioned on December 15.

Comm Ayob said the suspect had been arrested in a previous case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation against a police officer in 2017.

“He was charged in court on March 3 of this year and was offered RM4,000 bail. However, he did not pay the fine and was imprisoned in the Ulu Choh Pretrial Detention Center until March 11, where he paid the fine.

“Then he did not go to court to have his case brought up again on April 1, where the court issued a search warrant,” he said during a press conference at Johor police headquarters on Wednesday (Nov.25 ).

Comm Ayob also reported that the police were also finalizing procedures to request an investigation order (OTI) from the Public Ministry on his two new crimes for making a slanderous statement against the IGP and him.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for sharing offensive and threatening content.

The suspect had allegedly questioned the integrity of Hamid and Comm Ayob and made a false accusation through a Facebook video on Friday (November 20).

The 17-minute and 39-second video was uploaded through an NGO Facebook page by the man, who openly named Comm Ayob and the IGP and accused them both of failing to fulfill their duties.
