PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has questioned the government about its decision to suspend the mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers from Sabah who test negative for Covid-19, effective November 25.
In a Facebook post, Najib said he will give the benefit of the doubt that the decision was made for the right reasons.
“I hope there is no political motive because there are still MPs in Sabah who can be banned from voting for the 2021 budget due to the quarantine period.
“If that’s true, I would rather postpone voting day for the 2021 budget,” he said, referring to the budget voting session that is expected to take place on November 25.
Najib questioned the justification for lifting the mandatory quarantine requirement, saying that even though the number of new Covid-19 cases in Sabah shows a downward trend since last week, the number of cases detected for “other categories of detection “is still high.
“In my opinion, the cases in these categories are the most dangerous because they are not related to any identified group and each case in this category is capable of producing a new group.
“Although Selangor registered a very high number of new cases yesterday (1,203) compared to Sabah (289), the number of registered cases from the other detection categories was 27 (in Selangor) compared to 73 in Sabah,” he said.
The Ministry of Health announced today that the mandatory 14-day quarantine for all people arriving from Sabah will cease as of November 25.
In a statement, the ministry said that anyone who intends to leave Sabah should only undergo a swab test three days before their scheduled departure. All those who test negative will be allowed to leave the state.
“For those who test positive for Covid-19, they will be referred to the hospital for isolation, treatment and monitoring. People showing symptoms will be referred for a more detailed examination, ”the ministry said.
