93 arrested for violating SOP

PETALING JAYA: A total of 93 people were arrested yesterday for violating the recovery movement control order (RMCO) standard operating procedures (SOP).

Of this number, 85 compounds were issued, while eight were forwarded.

Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) He said that the crimes with the highest number of offenders were the non-use of masks (33) and the lack of social distancing (32).

“Other crimes committed included activities in pubs and nightclubs (14) venues operating without authorization (seven) failing to provide equipment or facilities for search (six) and failing to provide documentation in an area under enhanced movement control order (one) ,” he said.

The arrests were part of 56,758 inspections carried out yesterday by the Police Enforcement Operations Task Force on premises that include supermarkets, transportation terminals, government offices, banks, restaurants and street vending centers.

Ismail Sabri said that Ops Benteng, under the National Task Force which involves the police, the army, the maritime agency and the border control agency, made 69 arrests yesterday.

“The arrests included three ship captains, a suspected smuggler and 65 illegal immigrants. Fourteen ground vehicles were also seized.

“Meanwhile, 82 barricades were also set up across the country to curb the entry of illegal immigrants,” he said.

Ismail Sabri also announced that between July 24 and yesterday, a total of 30,717 people had returned to Malaysia from abroad.

“Of the total, 9,735 are in mandatory quarantine, while 71 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment. A total of 20,893 have been discharged and allowed to return home, ”he added.

He also said that eight sanitation operations were carried out yesterday, covering two red zones, one yellow zone and four green zones in Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang, Kedah and Malacca.
