PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has reported 852 Covid-19 cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours.
Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 825 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharged to 28,234.
In a press release, Noor Hisham said the 852 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 40,209.
Meanwhile, the four deaths bring the balance to 286.
The four deaths involved two people from Sabah, one from Kedah and one from Perak. They were between 62 and 81 years old. Three of them had a history of non-communicable diseases.
A total of 11,689 people are currently receiving treatment, of whom 94 are in intensive care, including 32 requiring respiratory assistance.
Of the new infections today, 13 of them were imported cases, involving eight Malaysians and five foreigners who arrived from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Turkey and South Korea.
The remaining 839 were local transmissions, most of which came from Sabah, with 524 infections. Most of the cases in the state were detected through Covid-19 tests.
It was followed by Selangor with 136 cases, Negeri Sembilan (104), Labuan (23), Penang (18) and Kuala Lumpur (11). Most of these cases were detected in existing groups and in Covid-19 tests.
Perak, Melaka, Kedah, Sarawak, Putrajaya, Johor, Kelantan, and Terengganu registered fewer than 10 cases each.
Noor Hisham also noted that more companies had taken the initiative to voluntarily screen employees for Covid-19.
He recalled that these examinations carried out by the private sector can only be carried out in private medical clinics, ambulatory care centers and private hospitals.
Meanwhile, he said, on-site health screening booth services can only be provided by private medical clinics.
He added that the list of private health facilities and services offering Covid-19 tests can be found on the website of the Ministry of Health or on the MySejahtera mobile application.
