PETALING JAYAConsidering the number of people arrested for disobeying the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), many Malaysians seem to be quite satisfied with the Covid-19 threat.
Yesterday, 82 people were arrested for various crimes under the RMCO, said Chief Minister (Defense) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (photo).
Of that number, it said in a statement, 75 were fined, six were issued composites and one was released on bail.
Those who had violated standard operating procedures (SOPs) were found to have not used their face masks (23), did not comply with social distancing (46), and did not record their personal data (12).
Only one person was arrested for activities carried out in pubs or discos.
A total of 3,025 workforce teams with 12,937 employees were deployed to carry out checks in 3,533 supermarkets, 4,785 restaurants, 1,375 street vendors, 1,127 factories, 3,744 banks and 737 government offices.
“They had also monitored 1,065 land transport terminals, 194 water / sea terminals and 151 air terminals,” he said.
Meanwhile, in “Ops Benteng” operations to crack down on undocumented immigrants, Ismail Sabri noted that 29 people without proper documents and two alleged traffickers were arrested yesterday.
“From May 1 to September 28, a total of 6,344 illegal immigrants and 295 suspected smugglers were arrested,” he said.
It added that 37,133 people who had come to KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to September 28.
Of that number, 8,671 people were placed in mandatory quarantine and 106 are receiving treatment in hospitals.
They had returned from 33 countries which included the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Qatar, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, India, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, and Turkey.
