799 Covid-19 cases, 3 deaths reported

PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health reported 799 cases of Covid-19 and three deaths in the last 24 hours.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 491 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharged to 20,248.

At a press conference, Noor Hisham said the 799 new cases bring the total number of cases in the country to 30,889.

The three deaths bring the balance to 249.

The three dead were a 70-year-old man.

Malaysian man, a 60-year-old foreigner, and a 53-year-old foreigner, all of whom died in Sabah. The 53-year-old man had no history of chronic disease.

There are currently 10,392 patients in treatment, 90 in the intensive care unit and 20 require respiratory assistance.

Sabah accounted for the majority of infections again with 466 cases, while the Klang Valley reported a total of 170 cases, with 150 in Selangor, 19 in Kuala Lumpur and one in Putrajaya.

“All of these states are still under a conditional motion control order (CMCO),” said Noor Hisham.

A total of 126 cases were detected in Sabah in active groups, 193 were from close contact examinations, while 147 infections were detected in other examinations.

In Selangor, 116 cases were from active groups, 22 from close contact examinations, and 13 from other Covid-19 examinations.

Labuan reported 65 cases today, while Penang recorded 35, with the vast majority detected in active groups and close contact screenings.

Twenty-three cases were detected in Negeri Sembilan, 16 in Sarawak, and 10 in Perak, most of them from active groups and close-contact screenings.

Johor and Kedah reported nine and five cases, respectively, from active groups.

Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Melaka were the only states that did not report any cases today.

Noor Hisham said bed capacity in Sabah Covid-19 hospitals is currently 77%, while usage in low-risk quarantine and treatment centers is 43%.

“Despite the large number of new cases reported today, especially in Sabah, there were also many cases discharged. So these empty beds can be used for new cases. “
