PUTRAJAYA: The police arrested 72 people yesterday for crimes related to the movement control order.
In a statement, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that 70 people were handed compounds, one in pre-trial detention and one on bail.
Ismail said most of the arrests were for activities that made physical distancing difficult. The other offenses include failing to wear face masks, failing to provide contact tracing record equipment, and operating beyond hours allowed.
A total of 3,031 compliance work teams involving 12,118 people carried out checks in 58,047 locations, including supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.
On the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said that 24,961 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to September 7 and were quarantined.
Sixty-six tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, 15,008 were allowed to return home, and 9,887 are in mandatory quarantine.
