71 new Covid cases registered today, with 63 in Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: There were 71 new Covid-19 cases today, a sharp drop from the day before where 147 cases were reported. The cases bring the national count to 10,596. As of noon today, there were 777 active cases in the country.

On the positive side, another 64 patients have recovered and are discharged.

Health Director General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) said that of the 71 new cases, two were imported. One of them is a Malaysian who had returned from Singapore and the other is an undocumented immigrant who came from Indonesia.

Sabah continues to account for the majority of locally transmitted cases, with 63 new cases. Of the remaining six cases, four were reported in Kedah and two in Selangor.

Of the new cases of local transmission, 43 are Malaysian and 26 are foreign.

The Bangau-Bangau group in Sabah saw the largest increase with 47 new cases, comprising 32 Malaysians and 15 foreigners.

The 10 new cases in Laut’s group are foreigners and in Benteng’s LD group, the only case is a Malaysian.

Six patients are still in intensive care and two of them require respiratory support. Yesterday there were no new fatalities, which kept the death toll at 133.
