672 people arrested for MCO-related offenses on Saturday

PETALING JAYA: Authorities arrested 672 people on Saturday for crimes related to the movement control order, Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

Of the total, Ismail said 643 received compound fines, while 29 were detained.

The crimes include not wearing face masks, attending nightclubs, failing to register or provide contact tracing materials, and failing to observe physical distancing.

A total of 2,368 compliance work teams, made up of 10,582 officers, carried out controls in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.

Ismail also said authorities detained 83 foreigners and a smuggler in the current Ops Benteng. Three vehicles were seized.

It added that 89,479 people came through the KLIA between July 24 and December 19 from various countries.

A total of 532 people tested positive and were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 80,563 were allowed to return home.

A total of 8,384 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
