PETALING JAYA: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that police arrested 648 people yesterday for crimes related to movement control.

He said 594 of them were slapped with compound fines, while 54 were arrested.

Ismail said most were found in entertainment centers. Others were arrested for not wearing masks, not observing physical distancing, failing to provide contact tracing materials, and crossing districts or states without permission.

He also announced the extension of the Enhanced Motion Control Order (EMCO) in Kampung Numbak and the Telipok settlement, both in Kota Kinabalu.

Both areas have been under an EMCO since November 16, but as of Friday, there were 109 active cases in Kampung Numbak and 136 active cases in the Telipok settlement.

“Apart from the active cases, many villagers in both locations still need to be examined.”

The EMCO will run for another 14 days until December 13.

Meanwhile, Ismail said a total of 2,437 compliance work teams conducted checks at supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.

Ismail said authorities also detained 99 foreigners and two smugglers yesterday under the current Ops Benteng. They also seized two vehicles.
