SEREMBAN (Bernama): A policeman in a mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) was injured in the left side of the head after being cut by a man with a sickle near a supermarket in Port Dickson Waterfront on Friday night (October 16 ).
Port Dickson District Police Chief Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed said that in the 10:00 p.m. incident, the 61-year-old suspect attacked the 35-year-old police officer despite being warned.
“The public alerted police that a man was holding a sickle near a food truck in the supermarket parking lot.
“The initial investigation found that he had created a commotion before fleeing to a nearby bush,” he said in a statement Saturday.
Supt Aidi said the suspect, who saw the presence of the minivan, ran to the vehicle and ignored the police order to stop.
This prompted the policeman to fire a warning shot from 5 meters away.
The suspect continued to run forward and police officers had to fire another shot that hit the suspect in the stomach, he added.
Supt Aidi said a fight ensued, and the suspect managed to throw the sickle at the policeman and hit the left side of his head.
Later, the man was disarmed and arrested.
He said the suspect was taken to Port Dickson Hospital while the police officer received first aid treatment at the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act of 1958. – Bernama
