KUALA LANGAT: Up to 60% of approved permit holders (AP) involved in meat import activities are bumiputera companies, said today the minister of agricultural and food industries, Ronald Kiandee.
He said Bumiputera AP holders include Ramly Food Processing Sdn Bhd and Darabif Meat Company, both of which are capable of importing large amounts of meat.
“As for the amount of (imported meat), it depends on the capacity of the company. These two companies can import meat in large quantities and can compete with non-bumiputera companies, ”he told reporters after a working visit to the Kuala Langat area farmers organization here today.
He was commenting on claims made recently by former deputy minister of agriculture and agribusiness Tajuddin Abdul Rahman in the media that only 10% of AP headlines who import meat are bumiputera companies.
Meanwhile, commenting on AP headlines blacklisted for violating the conditions, Kiandee said the ministry of agriculture and food industries was still awaiting the results of the investigation from the relevant agencies.
“We are still awaiting the results of the investigation. The case related to this meat-importing PA is under investigation by various agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police, Customs and the Ministry of National Commerce and Consumer Affairs.
“If there is a violation of these AP conditions, my ministry will take severe action,” he said.
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries reportedly said that it was willing to revoke the AP of any company found to be involved in the frozen meat distribution cartel without a halal certificate and that it will not tolerate any ministry personnel involved in the matter. .
