6 online loan applications under investigation

The Department of Personal Data Protection is investigating six loan applications.

PUTRAJAYA: Six unlicensed money loan applications are under investigation on suspicion of misuse of personal data, the Personal Data Protection Department (PDPD) said today.

The six apps are Asialend, Dreamlend, iPayfren, iPinjaman, Helplend4u, and GoCash4u.

The department said the apps “were found to have accessed and copied other information, including personal information not related to loans without the consent of the borrower.”

If convicted, the operators of the six apps face penalties of up to RM300,000 or a jail term of up to two years, or both.

Those whose personal data has been misused by such unlicensed online money loan applications are urged to contact the PDPD compliance division at [email protected] o the Personal Data Protection System (daftar.pdp.gov.my) to assist in investigations.

The department said Malaysians should be more careful about their personal data when applying for loans online, especially when they give permission to downloaded applications to access the information.

Anyone interested in online loans should check with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Community Credit Control Division to check the registration status of the online loan application, the department said.
