6 new Covid-19 clusters detected in Selangor, Sabah, KL, Negeri Sembilan, Johor

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the groups reporting the highest number of new cases in the past 24 hours were the Jalan Harapan Prison Group (235 cases), the Bina Muda Construction Site Group (74 cases) and Tembok’s group (55 cases).

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected six new Covid-19 clusters in the country during the last 24 hours.

In a statement, Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are known as the Lebuh Construction Works Group in Selangor; Sugud Group in Sabah; Jalan Tengah Construction Site Group in Kuala Lumpur; Persiaran Heights cluster in Negeri Sembilan; as well as the Tembok Gajah and Utama Rini groups in Johor.

The Lebuh construction site group’s index case in Sepang, Selangor was detected on December 15 after projections at a construction site. Of the 285 people tested in the group, 20 have tested positive so far.

The index case of the Sugud group, which is active in Sabah’s Penampang and Papar districts, was detected after a person tested positive during symptomatic individual examinations on November 26. Since then, 163 people have been tested, 26 of them positive.

Jalan Tengah’s group of construction sites in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur, was spotted on December 3 after projections at a construction site. Of the 245 tested in the group, 11 have tested positive so far.

Another group of workplaces, the Persiaran Heights group in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, was detected after a person tested positive during symptomatic individual exams on December 14. Since then, sixty people have been tested, and 21 have tested positive.

The Tembok Gajah group in Johor’s Kluang district was detected after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual exams on December 16. Of the 52 people tested in the group, 13 have tested positive so far.

The index case of the Utama Rini cluster in Johor Bahru, Kulai and Pontian districts in Johor was detected after an individual tested positive during symptomatic individual exams on December 11. Since then, 100 people have been tested and 22 tested positive.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that there were two groups that finished today, the Parit Kassan group in Johor and the Kube group in Kelantan.

This brings the total number of active clusters being monitored across the country to 197.
