PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health reported 58 new Covid-19 infections today, bringing the total number of cases to 9,868.
The positive cases include five imported cases and 53 local transmissions, the Health Ministry said today in a statement.
He said 29 of the 53 local cases involve Malaysians. The other 24 are foreigners.
Today there were no new deaths, and the country’s death toll stood at 128.
Eight patients were discharged in the past 24 hours, said Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, with total recoveries to date of 9,189.
Noor Hisham said there are currently 551 active cases, nine of which are being treated in intensive care units and five are in need of ventilation.
The five imported cases originated in Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Syria and the Philippines.
Forty-eight cases are from Sabah, involving 24 foreigners; 44 are from the Benteng LD cluster where 21 are foreigners; three cases are from Laut’s new cluster and one case is from a preoperative examination at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
Five cases are from the Sungai group in Kedah.
In Benteng’s group, Noor Hisham said that as of noon today, 4,089 people were tested with 44 new positive cases of Covid-19.
There were also 2,847 Tawau screenings where 293 cases were positive, 724 were negative and 1,830 were still awaiting results.
Another 1,242 people were tested at Lahad Datu with 88 positive cases, 440 negative cases and 714 still awaiting the results.
Meanwhile, in Sungai’s group in Kedah, 8,258 people have so far been screened with the help of 709 medical staff.
A total of 8,110 people from Kedah have been tested with 55 total positive cases, 2,041 negative and 6,014 awaiting results.
A total of 131 projections were from Penang, 124 were negative and seven are still awaiting the results.
Seventeen evaluations were conducted in Perlis, one of which was positive for Covid-19, 11 negative, and five still awaiting results.
