PETALING JAYA: A total of 523 people were arrested yesterday, including 356 for participating in nightclub activities, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

In a statement, Ismail said that 483 of them were fined and 40 in preventive detention.

Ismail said other crimes included failing to record guests’ details, not wearing face masks, engaging in activities that made physical distancing difficult, and illegal immigrants.

He also said police installed 98 roadblocks across the country, arrested 75 illegal immigrants and seized three vehicles.

He warned that the government will crack down on anyone who tries to enter through illegal channels.

On the mandatory quarantine, Ismail said that 35,991 people who arrived at the KLIA between July 24 and September 26 had been screened for Covid-19 and had been quarantined at 67 hotels and nine public training institutes.

During this period, 8,349 were still in quarantine, while 103 were sent to hospitals for treatment. A total of 27,539 completed their quarantine and were sent home.

A total of 948 checks were conducted at the facilities to ensure they were following standard operating procedures. Fifteen locations were found that did not comply.

Meanwhile, the Enhanced Motion Control (EMCO) order imposed in the Melur area in Aman Jaya, Kedah, will end today.

The decision was made after the area had no more positive Covid-19 cases.
