KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 522 people were arrested for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), of which 342 were aggravated and 180 in preventive detention, yesterday.
Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) said that the crimes included carrying out activities in pubs or nightclubs in which 363 people participated, followed by not practicing physical distancing (81) and not wearing a mask (36).
“Other than that, 17 people were found outside their homes without a reasonable excuse in the improved areas of the MCO.
“While 12 people did not provide check-in equipment or facility, five were operating premises without a permit, seven foreigners were arrested for not having personal travel documents, and one individual was found outside the EMCO area without a compelling reason,” he said in a statement, here, today.
In Op Benteng, he said that 180 illegal immigrants, five smugglers and a captain were captured yesterday, while five ground vehicles were seized in the operation.
“89 roadblocks were carried out in the operation, involving the police, the Malaysian Border Security Agency and the Armed Forces.
“The government will crack down on any party that tries to infiltrate the country’s border, and enforcement agencies will continue to tighten up border control, especially on rat tracks,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 31,227 people had returned to their homes through the country’s entry points from July 24 to yesterday, and were staying in 69 hotels and eight other facilities, including Public Training Institutes (ILA). and private institutions of higher education.
He said that of the number, 8,673 people are in mandatory quarantine, while 71 people have been sent to hospitals for treatment and a total of 22,483 have been allowed to return to their homes to date. – Named
