KUALA LUMPUR: The police yesterday arrested 517 people for crimes against the motion control order (MCO), including 42 for gambling.
Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a total of 467 people received compound fines, while another 50 were arrested.
Other offenses include failing to practice physical distancing, not wearing face masks, failing to provide contact tracing record materials, participating in entertainment center activities, and traveling between states or between districts without a permit.
A total of 2,923 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in 16,790 supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.
Ismail also said that police captured 51 illegal immigrants, two smugglers and seized three boats and three vehicles yesterday under Ops Benteng.
It added that 69,443 people who arrived through KLIA were tested for Covid-19 from July 24 to November 16, 396 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 58,661 were able to return home.
Some 10,386 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
