KUALA LUMPUR: The police offer discounts of up to 50% for traffic citations that are paid through the MyBayar Saman portal and application from today until April 11.

Police Inspector General Abdul Hamid Bador said the offer was to encourage the public to use the online facility to serve citations for minor traffic violations.

However, the offer did not apply to major traffic violations, such as running red lights, speeding, passing on double lines, using the phone while driving and driving in the emergency lane, he said.

“With this application, the public can make payments online without having to endure long lines at the payment counters,” he said at a press conference after launching MyBayar Saman at the federal police headquarters here today.

Hamid said the online payment method was expected to be well received as the pandemic had led many to opt for cashless payments.

MyBayar Saman is also in line with the police goal of increasing collection through cashless payments and phasing out checkout counters, he said.

“The police recorded only 18.5% (in cashless payments) last year, compared to the average rate of 62.9% in the public sector,” he said, adding that the payment application could also reduce the police dependence of private agencies for collection.

He said that no service charge would be imposed for use through MyBayar Saman.

“Since it was activated last night at midnight, more than RM1 million have been raised through online payments. We hope that this mode of payment will help us reach our fundraising target of RM 500 million this year, ”he said.

Hamid said that in the 30-year period from 1990 to last year, more than RM6.6 billion was collected, comprising 68% of the citations issued, while 32% went unpaid.

Meanwhile, the director of Bukit Aman’s traffic investigation and enforcement department, Azisman Alias, said that the police planned to add the electronic wallet as a form of payment, and that it would not be limited to solving subpoenas.

The MyBayar Saman portal can be accessed through the PDRM website or https://mybayar.rmp.gov.my while the mobile application can be downloaded from Google Playstore or Apple App Store.
