4WD vehicle hampers obstacle on Lekas ​​road, kills police

KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer was killed after being hit by a four-wheel drive vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver while driving an obstacle at the Kajang-South Toll Plaza on the Kajang-Seremban (Lekas) Highway this morning.

Safwan Muhammad Ismail, 31, of the Kajang District Police Headquarters, died at the scene of injuries to his body and head after being hit by the vehicle at approximately 2:10 am.

Kajang District Police Chief Mohd Zaid Hassan said the driver was on his way from Kajang to the toll plaza.

“Upon reaching the barricade, the driver, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, was unable to control the vehicle and hit the policeman before colliding with a car parked on the shoulder,” it said in a statement.

He said the driver, who was injured, was detained by the police.
