KUALA LUMPUR: Of the 251,101 foreign workers tested for Covid-19 from Dec. 1 to yesterday, 4,735 tested positive, Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob said. (pix)

The selection of these foreign workers involved 10,500 employers.

“Yesterday, the Ministry of Human Resources reported that 8,601 foreign workers were tested for Covid-19 and 133 of them tested positive.

“Additionally, to date, 887 clinics are involved in this screening program (for foreign workers),” he said in a statement regarding the Movement Control Order (MCO) here today.

The screening is in line with the government directive that requires foreign workers, specifically in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Labuan to undergo Covid-19 screening at the cost borne by employers.

On compliance with the MCO’s SOP, Ismail Sabri said 426 people were detained by police yesterday for non-compliance and 404 of them were imposed compound fines, 21 in pretrial detention and one person was released on police bail.

Meanwhile, Operation Operasi Benteng saw 23 illegal immigrants arrested, five land vehicles and two boats seized yesterday. -Called
