PETALING JAYA: Of the 47 new cases of Covid-19 registered today, 45 are by local transmission involving 28 Malaysians and 17 foreigners. The remaining two are imported cases between foreigners from the Maldives (one case in Kuala Lumpur) and Morocco (one case in Selangor).
Today no new deaths were reported, keeping the number of fatalities at 128. Seven were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,196.
Nine patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and four are ventilator-assisted.
According to Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, a total of 711 healthcare workers have been examined to date.
“At 12 o’clock today, 14,044 from the Sungai cluster had been examined, 711 are health personnel and 20 are positive cases,” he said.
“A health worker at a medical center in Kedah was found to be the index case triggered by Sungai’s group. This (group) includes three states, namely Kedah, Penang and Perlis. “
The individual was said to have had symptoms since Aug. 30 and only tested positive on Sept. 5.
“There are 56 positive cases in Kedah so far, with 5,781 pending detection results and 8,054 negative,” said Noor Hisham.
“In Perlis, one tested positive, 11 were negative and six are awaiting results, while in Penang 135 tested negative and no positive cases were detected.”
In the Tawar group, which involves people from Kedah, Penang and Perak, there are six positive cases who are private health workers.
To date, there are a total of 92 positive cases in this group.
“A total of 81 in Kedah, 11 in Penang and another 11 in Perak,” he said.
Noor Hisham said Sabah had the highest numbers with 31 testing positive, followed by Kedah, who has a total of 14 cases.
Of the 14 Malaysians who tested positive for Kedah, 13 are from the Tawar group and one from the Sungai group.
The four new cases reported in Sabah yesterday are among the elderly, detected through examinations. Three are Malaysians and one is a foreigner.
The Health Ministry statement revealed that the highest number of cases was recorded in Benteng’s LD group in Sabah, comprising a total of 22 cases in Tawau involving eight Malaysians and 14 foreigners.
“To date, out of the 4,666 examined, a total of 403 positive cases have been recorded in this group involving 227 foreigners and 176 Malaysians. Foreigners are from the Philippines (152 cases) followed by Indonesia (75 cases), ”he said.
“In Lahad Datu, 88 cases were reported while another 263 are awaiting results and the rest tested negative. In Tawau, a total of 315 positive cases were registered and 2,290 are awaiting results while the rest are negative. “
