SEREMBAN, February 20: A total of 42,120 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) across the country will receive injections of the COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase of the National COVID-19 Immunization Program, scheduled to begin on February 26.
Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the vaccination involved 84,240 doses and each member received two doses of vaccine.
“I believe that in March (Armed Forces personnel) will receive the vaccine since we are part of the vanguard. This also includes those involved in controlling roadblocks and ‘Op Benteng’ operations with the police.
“The (vaccination) schedule will be set and reported to the ATM,” he told reporters after visiting the Armed Forces Family Housing Center (RKAT), headquarters of the 1st Brigade, Sikamat Camp, here today.
Meanwhile, he said that for tomorrow’s arrival of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, ATM will also be involved for the security check from tomorrow until the vaccine is administered to the public.
Tomorrow, Malaysia will receive 312,390 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which will fly Malaysia Airlines A330-300 airliner to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang, before being distributed to various vaccine storage locations. in all the country.
Meanwhile, when asked if the ATM would consider using his hospital as one of the vaccine storage centers, Ismail Sabri said the ATM was ready to help the government in any situation, in addition to having enough manpower.
“Insya-Allah, we are ready to discuss with the Armed Forces Hospital, and the ATM is also heavily involved in COVID-19 matters, including the supply of ATM field hospital in Sabah earlier,” he said.
Earlier, Ismail Sabri explained that today’s visit to RKAT was part of his visit to the Malaysian army formations.
