412 arrested for MCO-related offenses

More than 11,600 people are currently in mandatory quarantine after entering the country.

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that police arrested 412 people yesterday for crimes related to movement control.

Of the total, Ismail said 403 people received compound fines, while nine others were detained.

Most of the crimes, he said, were for not observing physical distancing.

Other offenses included participating in entertainment center activities, not wearing face masks, failing to provide contact tracing or recording materials, and traveling between states or districts without a permit.

A total of 2,932 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in 17,921 supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transportation terminals.

Ismail also said that police captured 51 illegal immigrants and seized three vehicles and a boat yesterday under Ops Benteng.

He added that 81,240 people had arrived through the KLIA from July 24 to December 3 from various countries.

A total of 509 people, who tested positive for Covid-19, were sent to the hospital for treatment, while 69,049 were able to return home during this period.

Some 11,682 people are currently in mandatory quarantine.
