4 will be charged with murder of former Mardi investigator

PETALING JAYA: Four men will be indicted today in Kuala Lumpur Magistrates Court for the robbery with murder of a former researcher at the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, on November 29.

Brickfields Police Chief Anuar Omar said the four will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty upon conviction, and will be read with Section 34 of the same code.

It was reported that Wan Hassan Wan Embong, 71, was stabbed with a parang when he tried to fight off thieves who broke in through the kitchen window of his two-story bungalow around 3:30 a.m.

His wife, Sarifah Yusof, 70, suffered cut injuries to her right hand.

Anuar said the same suspects will also be charged with armed robbery in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

They will be charged pursuant to Section 395 and Section 397 of the Penal Code, which prescribe penalties for gang theft and gang theft with an attempt to cause death or serious injury.
