PETALING JAYA: Four out of five people trapped in a van buried under the rubble of a collapsed scaffold at the job site of an overpass along the Ampang-bound route of the Central Ring Road 2 (MRR2) nearby from Desa Tasik in Sungai Besi have been rescued.

It is known that a man in his 60s was among those rescued tonight.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department said efforts were underway to rescue the latest victim.

He said 23 firefighters from four fire stations were tasked with carrying out the rescue.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Deputy Commissioner Zulkifli Yahya said initial investigations pointed to the collapse as a truck accident.

“As a result of the collision, construction materials fell on a factory van that was traveling in the direction of the city center, with four or five passengers inside,” Zulkifli said in a statement.

“The status of the victims is still unknown. As of now, rescuers are in the process of lifting and removing the collapsed building materials. “

Police were alerted to the incident at 6:15 p.m.

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department said it was alerted to the emergency at 5:58 p.m.

“The Kuala Lumpur Operations Center announced that the collapsed structure crushed a van with five victims passing under the construction structure,” said a spokesman.
