4 New Covid-19 Clusters Detected in Sabah, Penang, Kedah

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health has detected four new Covid-19 clusters in the country during the last 24 hours.

Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said it is the Istimewa and Alila groups in Sabah, the Rajawali group in Penang and the Asuncion group involving both Penang and Kedah.

In a statement, he said that Istimewa’s group was detected in Sandakan, and that the index case tested positive after being admitted to hospital.

Close contact screening tests found that 15 other people also had the virus, while 27 people tested negative and 11 are awaiting test results.

The Alila group was detected in Kota Kinabalu, and the index case tested positive after showing symptoms. Twenty-two others tested positive in the group, and another 294 await test results.

The Assumption group comprises the northern and central districts of Seberang Perai in Penang, as well as Kulim in Kedah. The index case tested positive after volunteering for screening. Nine close contacts also tested positive, while 56 people await their test results.

The Rajawali group involves the northeast and southwest districts of Penang Island, and the index case tested positive in a voluntary evaluation. Another nine also tested positive on voluntary tests.

So far, 15 close contacts have tested negative while another 65 are awaiting their test results.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said that the Bah Lunas group in Kedah and the Bemban group in Terengganu have officially ended. There were no group-related deaths.
