PETALING JAYA: Condom maker Karex Bhd has confirmed that 35 of its workers have tested positive for Covid-19 after a routine screening of more than 2,000 employees recently.

According to the Malaysian Reserve, 28 cases were detected during an examination conducted at the company’s catheter facility in Pontian, Johor, on December 16.

“The other seven isolated cases were detected in our other two condom factories,” said a company spokesman.

Karex, the world’s largest condom manufacturer, said it began testing its local and foreign employees for Covid-19 on November 23 at all of its facilities.

He also said that they immediately notified the Health Ministry and worked with them to identify close contacts of their affected employees.

“As well as ensuring that our affected employees received proper medical care and were quarantined for later detection,” he added.

The affected catheter facility, he added, is temporarily closed for disinfection and sanitation procedures. It expects to resume operations in stages from Friday.
