31 new cases of Covid-19, 28 local infections

PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health reported today 31 new cases of Covid-19, 28 local infections and three imported cases.

Sabah recorded the highest number of cases, with 25, including 17 from Benteng’s LD group in Lahad Datu.

Only one case was reported in Kedah, while the Bunga group in Negeri Sembilan also recorded four cases, involving members of the ship’s crew.

The new infections bring the number of cases to 9,946, Chief Health Officer Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

Seven patients were discharged today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,203.

There are currently 615 active cases, 11 admitted to the intensive care unit and five patients requiring respiratory assistance.

No new deaths related to Covid-19 were reported, leaving the death toll at 128.

The three imported cases involved two Malaysians and one Indonesian who entered the country from Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the local cases involved 19 citizens and nine foreigners.

Four of the local cases in Sabah, outside of Benteg’s LD group, were detected during a severe acute respiratory infection screening at Lahad Datu Hospital, a pre-operation examination at Kudat Hospital, a baseline examination at Tawau Hospital and a screening in an older adult. citizen in Klinik Kesihatan Merotai.

Another local case was detected from close contact examinations, while a prisoner at the Kudat police headquarters also tested positive for the virus.

Kedah’s case is linked to Sungai’s group, bringing the total number of infections there to 57.

The four new cases of the Bunga group were from second evaluations in 22 members of the crew of a ship that has been docked in Port Dickson. This brings the total number of cases to 10.

Benteng’s LD group has registered 420 positive cases in total, comprising 185 Malaysians and 235 foreigners.

Noor Hisham called on residents of the Kota Setar district, which is under an Enhanced Administrative Movement Control Order (EMCO), to cooperate with authorities to prevent the spread of the virus.

He also urged them not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
